Major League Baseball announced Paul Skenes as the National League Pitcher of the Month for July. Skenes led the majors with a 0.67 ERA in five starts, allowing two earned runs in 27 innings pitched, striking out 36 and walking three.
Skenes earned his first career award and is the first Pirates pitcher to win since Ivan Nova in April 2017. Skenes is just the eighth Pirate (10th occurrence) to win the award, joining Nova; Gerrit Cole (April 2015), RandyTomlin (June 1992), DougDrabek (3x, August 1987, July & August 1990), RickRhoden (June 1986), John Candelaria (July 1982) and KentTekulve (August 1978).
