Joey Bart (concussion) is being placed on the 7-day IL and Endy Rodriguez (right index finger laceration) is being activated from the 10-day IL.
Bart exited last night's game in the fifth inning with an apparent head injury after being struck by Lourdes Gurriel's backswing in the fourth, then again by a caromed foul ball in Gurriel's next at-bat. While catching warmup pitches from Joey Wentz in the fifth, Bart stood and motioned to the athletic trainers to remove him.
Bart has a history of concussions. He was scratched from a game last season with concussion-like symptoms after being hit in the head during batting practice. He was placed on the seven-day concussion IL in 2022 while playing for the Giants and had a few other occurrences in the minor leagues.
Rodriguez joined the team in Phoenix this morning. He played in eight games during his rehab assignment with Indianapolis and hit .154/.241/.385 with a .626 OPS. He hit two home runs, drove in four runs and struck out five times in 26 at-bats.
Todd Tomczyk provided further injury updates:
• Hunter Barco (left shoulder) threw two ups in a live batting practice recently and is scheduled to play catch today. Tomczyk said the pitching group will have conversations about him returning to competition soon.
• Nick Gonzales (ankle) continues his rehab assignment with Indianapolis, where he's tallied one hit in 18 at-bats. Tomczyk said Gonzales has no "ill effects" from being hit in the left hand and is playing without restrictions.
• Enmanuel Valdez (shoulder) is one week removed from surgery and is rehabbing in Bradenton, Fla.
• Johan Oviedo (right lat strain) is still throwing sides and will work toward live batting practice in the next 7-10 days. There's no timetable for him to make a rehab assignment.
• Jared Jones (elbow) is working on general range of motion in Florida, following his UCL repair surgery last week with elbow specialist Dr. Keith Meister.
• Colin Holderman (thumb) saw Dr. Don Sheridan in Arizona this week and received a cortisone injection to address recurrent right thumb tenosynovitis. He won't throw for approximately seven days.
• Dauri Moreta (elbow) is in a good spot, according to Tomczyk, as he's worked in multiple situations -- back-to-back games, multiple innings -- and is recovering well.
