While the Diamondbacks had plenty of timely hits in handing the Pirates a 9-0 loss here tonight at Chase Field, the visitors didn't happen to do themselves many favors.
The offense once again struggled to generate any type of fluidity and the pitching staff, while also giving up nine hits, let runners reach base freely on seven walks and two hit batters. BubbaChandler walked six over his five innings of two-run ball and YohanRamirez walked another while also hitting two batters in a sixth inning in which the Diamondbacks pulled away with five runs on just two hits -- an RBI double by GabrielMoreno and a two-run double by GeraldoPerdomo. Those big hits surely came in handy, as guys up and down Arizona's lineup delivered when they needed to. But the Pirates' self-inflicted wounds helped put the Diamondbacks in a position where they could turn mistakes into runs.
"They got the momentum today and they rode it," JoeyBart said. "We had none, from the beginning. We didn’t have any momentum going for us. Usually a big homer or a big inning gets it going. When we have those innings, we can get dangerous fast. We just didn’t have that today. Recoup, get ready to go tomorrow and bring it tomorrow."
