Dan Szymborski from FanGraphs Baseball recently published his final ZiPS projections for the National League Central and it's not a great outlook for the Pirates.
As we wrote about last week, the Pirates are projected to be a .500 team. There has not been an exact record projected as of yet, but the Pirates and Reds are projected to finish around .500 and finish at the bottom of the division.
ZiPS projections have the Cardinals finishing in the middle of the division as Szymborksi wrote: "Unlike most seasons, ZiPS does’t see the Cardinals as being in the same tier as the Brewers and Cubs. St. Louis has better projections than the Pirates and Reds, at least for now, but even then, only barely."
ZiPS has the Cubs and Brewers finishing at the top of the division. Szymborski wrote that the Cubs are projected to win 86 or 87 games while the Brewers are projected to win 86 to 90 games this season.
