The Pirates placed Wilber Dotel on the 15-day injured list with a right lat muscle strain. Dotel has struggled over the last two games, allowing 10 earned runs on nine hits, four walks, and two strikeouts in just 1 1/3 innings.
Brandon Bidois was recalled to take his place.
It was the second straight outing for Dotel where his velocity was not there as his fastball had dropped 1.9 mph from his season average. Dotel and Don Kelly made no mention of any physical ailments after the game as Dotel focused on his walks.
"It had some effect on the outing, actually being behind in counts and walking guys," Dotel said. "Behind in counts, you can always come back and get hitters, but yeah, definitely the walks will hurt you and it affected me a little bit."
