Nick Gonzales is back with the Pirates and will return to the lineup tonight for the first time since opening day in Miami. He'll bat sixth and play second base. Gonzales missed extended time with a left ankle fracture and even had his rehab assignment at Class AAA Indianapolis halted for a brief time after being hit in the hand with a pitch.
"It feels great just to be out here again and see the guys," said Gonzales, who hit .194 with one extra-base hit and 11 strikeouts in 36 at-bats over nine games with Indianapolis. "It just felt different today coming to the ballpark knowing that I'm actually playing today versus how it was the past few weeks where there no opportunity to go in the game. I'm excited to be out in the dugout laughing with the guys and help the team win."
