Todd Tomczyk provided a few medical updates this morning:
• JohanOviedo (right lat strain) threw 62 pitches over five innings last night for Class AAA Indianapolis and came out feeling healthy.
“Iinitial responses, Ovi felt like he pitched five innings and feels really good,” Tomczyk said. “He’ll throw a side in the coming days, and then we'll continue to talk about next steps.”
• JaredJones (elbow) is approximately 10 weeks post-op and has reported no issues. Tomczyk said he continues to be very diligent in his rehab.
• JustinLawrence (right elbow inflammation) and TimMayza (left shoulder lat muscle strain) have already thrown a couple of side sessions and are both at the Florida complex in Bradenton.
"They've been coming out feeling good off their sides,” Tomczyk said. "They’ll probably throw another week or so of sides before they transition to lives. All in all, very good progress.”
• ChaseShugart (left knee inflammation) is also in Florida and has now thrown twice off the mound with no issues. Tomczyk said that is going to line him up for live batting practice later this week. After that, the intent would be to get him out on some type of rehab assignment early to mid next week.
• RyanBorucki (low back inflammation) is here in San Francisco with the team. He’s throwing off the slope, throwing off flat ground and continues to check out healthy, Tomczyk said, adding that the recommendation from a health perspective is that he is ready for any type of deployment.
• EnmanuelValdez (shoulder) continues his strength and conditioning phase, coming back from shoulder surgery. He’s experienced no issues and is still on track for a six-month return
• EndyRodriguez (elbow) continues to feel some “stickiness” and “tightness” with certain activities. The team is still learning more and is in a little bit of a holding pattern as they keep in constant communication with Dr. NealElAttrache, Tomczyk said.
“He has not picked up a bat to swing from left side, or he has not played catch yet, and we're about six weeks out, so we’re wanting to learn more before we progress with Endy,” Tomczyk added.
