Nutting calls incident 'one of the most difficult moments'
Following last night's incident at PNC Park, where a fan fell 21 feet from atop the Clemente Wall in right field, Pirates chairman Bob Nutting called it "one of the most difficult moments many of us have ever experienced," in a statement released this morning.
“We are all deeply saddened and truly heartbroken after the terrible accident that occurred last night. It was one of the most difficult moments many of us have ever experienced. We are devastated. Pirates baseball is a community, and our fans are like family. In times like these, we must come together, support one another, and keep him and his loved ones in our prayers. We also want to thank and appreciate the efforts of the first responders who rushed to his attention and provided him with compassionate care.”
Following Nutting's statement, the Pirates released another notice stating that the railings above the Clemente Wall, the one the unidentified fan fell over last night, are measured at 36-inches, according to the PNC Park architect of record. That measurement far exceeds the current code requirements of 26 inches.
