Bubba Chandler and Hunter Barco were each named the pitcher of the month for their respective leagues in April.
Chandler, the Pirates' top overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, earned the honors for the International League in Class AAA after going 1-0 and producing a 1.33 ERA over five starts. He allowed just three earned runs on seven hits and six walks over 20 1/3 innings while striking out 27 batters. He also limited hitters to a .106 batting average.
Barco, the Pirates No. 7 prospect, earned the Eastern League honor in Class AA as he got off to a historic start by throwing 20 2/3 innings. He extended that streak to 25 2/3 in May, setting a team record for the Altoona Curve before being promoted to Class AAA Indianapolis. In April, Barco went 1-0 in five starts and never allowed a runner to reach third base. He gave up just nine hits and four walks in 20 2/3 innings. He also recorded 30 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .132 batting average.
