Class AAA Indianapolis manager Chris Truby and former Pirates manager Gene Lamont will join the Pirates' coaching staff, while Mike Rabelo will take on an expanded role in game planning and in-game strategy, Ben Cherington and Don Kelly announced today.
Truby will be a coach on the staff after serving as the organization's minor league infield coordinator for the last four years. Like Kelly, Truby is a former player who spent time with the Astros, Expos, Tigers and Rays between 2000-2003. He's led the Indians to a 23-17 record this season.
Lamont, who will work as a special advisor to Kelly, will begin his third stint with the team as he was the team's manager between 1997-2000 and served as a coach from 1986-1991. He's also coached under Jim Leyland and Brad Ausmus with the Tigers.
Truby will be in Philadelphia this weekend while Lamont will join the team in Pittsburgh during next week's homestand.
Shawn Bowman, who was the organization's assistant director, coaching and player development/minor league coordinator will take over as the Indians' manager.
