From Ben Cherington's appearance on the team-produced radio show:
• On what's on the horizon with the trade deadline looming at the end of July: "We'll keep trying.... We will get to something that makes sense and find a way to strengthen the team."
• On the frustrating losses the last two nights, Cherington said, "There was certainly plenty of other things that could have happened in the game that we could have done."
• On the impact of missing Oneil Cruz and Konnor Griffin:"Good teams have good players on the IL every year, and we're going through that right now, and good teams have to have to find a way to win, despite that."
• Cherington said that Griffin is progressing well and, barring something unforeseen, is expected to play in rehab games by the end of the week.
• On the team finding a way to bounce back throughout the season: "We have guys in our clubhouse who are gonna rally together and come back and compete and fight today, and they'll fight for the last bit. Like, we see that consistently. We just still can play a better, cleaner, more consistent brand of baseball."
• On what led to the Joey Bart trade, Cherington said, "Decided the best balance of offense and defense (with Endy Rodriguez and Henry Davis)."
• On Carmen Mlodzinski's role moving forward: "We believe the bulk role is really valuable to the team. The manager has some flexibility, day-to-day when to use those 2-4 innings."
• On Oneil Cruz's status: "He's got an appointment tomorrow, which will give us a sense, a better sense of the healing.... won't start baseball activity."
• On Wilber Dotel: "He's coming along well.... anticipate that at some point, we probably would try to get him a rehab outing."
• On Hunter Barco's elbow injury, Cherington said, "It is in the area of the elbow, but it's a little bit different spot than normal. It doesn't appear to be anything with the joint." He referred to Barco getting scans and the team will learn more this week.
• On Mike Clevinger working his way back to Class AAA after his knee injury, Cherington mentioned he could be back to Indianapolis soon.
