Dennis Santana lost his arbitration hearing and will make $1.4 million this season. The right-handed relief pitcher had filed for $2.1 million after making $740,000 in 2024.
Santana signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees before the 2024 season and was designated for assignment in June after recording a 6.26 ERA over 27 1/3 innings of work in 23 appearances. The Pirates claimed him off waivers and he became one of the team’s most consistent relievers down the stretch.
In 44 1/3 innings, Sanatana recorded a 2.44 ERA and stuck out 50 batters. Before his final outing of the season against the Yankees on Sept. 28, Santana had not allowed an earned run in 21 appearances and only allowed one run over that same stretch. In September, he recorded a 0.73 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and limited opposing hitters to a .098 batting average.
Santana has been in the league since 2018 and has also played for the Dodgers, Rangers and Mets. He’s accumulated a 4.76 career ERA in 221 1/3 innings of work.
