Pirates 5, Giants 4: Struggling Suwinski wins the day

Jack Suwinski beats the tag of the Giants' Patrick Bailey to win the game in the ninth inning Monday at PNC Park.
Four relievers covered eight innings of two-run ball and JackSuwinski hit a two-run home run in the seventh to ignite the Pirates' offense past Giants, 5-4 tonight at PNC Park.
Suwinski was later hit by a pitch in the ninth and scored the game-winning run on a close play at the plate following an Isiah Kiner-Falefa fielder's choice. JoeyBart tied it with an RBI single before the late heroics by both Kiner-Falefa and Suwinski.
"I'm really glad we won that game," Suwinski said. "It was really close. It's really hard for me, because I just try to dive and slide as hard and far as I can to get in there. I knew it was going to be close. I just run in with my head down, but I could see his body catching and turning, so I just stayed on the outside of that running lane and tried to get my hand as far out and over as I can."
Making his first major-league start since Sept. 27, 2023 in Philadelphia, JohanOviedo struck out the side, but lasted one inning after allowing two runs on three walks and two singles. He struggled with his fastball and slider command, throwing 23 of his 43 pitches for strikes.
