After putting together three-hit performances in each of the last two games and adding a grand slam this afternoon, SpencerHorwitz became just the second Pirates player since at least 1900 to accomplish that feat over a three-game stretch, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Per Elias, the only other Pirate to do that was AndreRodgers from May 23-25, 1965. Rodgers hit a grand slam on May 23 at Milwaukee, then had three-hit games on both May 24 and May 25 vs. Chicago.
Horwitz went 7 for 12 with three extra-base hits -- two doubles and one home run -- along with seven RBIs and four runs scored. The last Pirate to have a three-game series with at least seven hits, including three extra-base hits, and seven RBIs and four runs scored was PedroAlvarez from Aug. 27-29, 2012 vs. St. Louis. During that stretch, Alvarez went 8 for 13 with two doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored.
"I'd say I'm just kind of getting better results," Horwitz said. "I don't know that it's been that bad. I think the underlying numbers have been pretty good. But yeah, I'm getting the outward results. And I think it's rewarding, for sure."
