Jacob Misiorowski has only pitched in two games at the big-league level, but he’s managed to find immediate success with the Brewers, allowing just two runs on one hit with 11 strikeouts over his first 11 innings.
What Paul Skenes has accomplished in just over a year in the major leagues goes without saying. He's been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Plain and simple. The two met today here in Milwaukee for the very first time ...
... and will go head to head in a highly-anticipated pitching matchup in the series finale between the Pirates and Brewers on Wednesday.
"Both really good arms,” Don Kelly said. “We know what Paul can do and excited to see their guy out there. It's going to be a good pitching matchup. Really looking forward to that one."
Skenes was named National League Rookie of the Year last year after compiling a 1.96 ERA over 23 starts following his May 11 debut. Misiorowski will look to follow in those footsteps in a way. There's obviously a long ways to go, but he's made the most of his first two outings so far. That makes this particular matchup even more intriguing to watch.
"I hope we have a nice crowd," Brewers manager PatMurphy told reporters this afternoon. "Skenes is established, in his second year coming off a good year, and he’s been pretty darn consistent. He’s one of the best in the game. Miz is in his third start. It’s unfair to compare them, for sure. Unfair to Skenes, you know what I mean? It should be exciting."
Misiorowski also discussed the upcoming matchup and was asked what he admires most about Skenes, having watched him from afar.
"I think it’s his work ethic," Misiorowski said. "You see him in the bullpen every day doing his water bags and stuff like that. He’s really staying on top of what he does. I think it’s going to be fun. I think it’s going to be really entertaining to watch. Two really good prospects – I mean, he’s not a prospect anymore I guess. Two guys that are at the top of their game right now. So I think it’s cool. It’s going to be fun.”
