Don Kelly said it was a "tough decision" to send IsaacMattson down to Class AAA Indianapolis based on the fact that he's meant a lot to the bullpen over these past two seasons. But it does seem like a bit of a reset is necessary for a guy who has allowed seven runs over his last five innings of work.
"There are some things that we've targeted for him to be able to work on when he gets down to Indy," Kelly said. "Just looking to get (Wilber) Dotel up and had to make a move. And Mattson had options left."
Kelly said there were discussions with Mattson regarding what they want him to work on down in the minors. He didn't go into specifics, but said they're associated with pitch mix and command, as Mattson has allowed a .253 batting average against and walked 10 batters in 19 2/3 innings this season.
"He knows what he's gonna be working on down there," Kelly said.
