Harrison announces retirement after 13 major-league seasons
Josh Harrison has retired after a 13-year major-league career that included eight seasons spent with the Pirates. Harrison announced his intentions on his X account this morning:
Harrison, who last played with the Phillies in 2023, was a two-time All-Star and a 14.1 WAR player during his time in Pittsburgh from 2011-18. He played in 842 games in a Pirates uniform, thriving in a role as a super utility man and hitting .277 with a .725 OPS, 52 home runs and 269 RBIs.
His best two seasons came in a Pirates uniform in 2014 and 2017. During his age-26 season in 2014, Harrison was named an All-Star for the first time and went on to hit a career-best .315 with an .837 OPS, 13 home runs and 52 RBIs in a career-high 143 games. He generated 5.6 WAR and finished ninth in National League MVP voting that year. In 2017, a 29-year-old Harrison hit .272 with a .771 OPS and a career-high 16 home runs in 128 games.
Harrison was a .270 hitter who totaled over 1,000 hits in over 1,200 career games with six different teams, including the Nationals, White Sox, Athletics and Tigers.
Today, on the anniversary of his MLB Debut in 2011; MSM Client, Josh Harrison, has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.
