Pirates 4, Mets 0: Gorski, Triolo blasts twice as nice
Matt Gorski and Jared Triolo each hit a two-run home run and a handful of pitchers put up nothing but blanks in the Pirates' 4-0 victory over the Mets tonight here at Citi Field.
Gorski homered to left-center field in the second inning on a 3-2 sweeper from Clay Holmes, scoring Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Triolo sent a first-pitch Holmes sinker into those same seats in the fifth after Ji Hwan Bae bunted for his first hit of the season.
"It was tremendous," Don Kelly said. "Tri has been squaring some balls up and doing really well. Gorski caught one and sent it way back, especially against a guy like Clay, who’s been really, really good. To get a hold of two two-run bombs and hang on for the win."
Bailey Falter threw 32 pitches in the first inning and lasted 3 2/3 while walking five. He loaded the bases after two outs in the fourth. Don Kelly went to Chase Shugart, who got José Azocar to fly out to center on one pitch. Shugart, Tanner Rainey, David Bednar and Dennis Santana pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings while giving up three hits.
• The standings: 15-29, fifth place, Central Division
• The trends: Lost 13 of past 17, 3-3 with Kelly
• The next one: Phillies, Friday, 6:45 p.m., Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
