Paul Skenes reacts after a double by the Brewers' Joey Ortiz in the fourth inning Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Major League Baseball's best team hit PaulSkenes and Co. hard, all while the majors' worst offense did nothing to punch back, as the Brewers bombed the Pirates, 14-0, tonight at American Family Field in an affair where nearly everything went wrong for the visitors.
The Brewers wasted no time getting to Skenes, as SalFrelick hit a leadoff home run, for the first first-inning run Skenes had allowed all season. Frelick added an RBI single in the fourth after BriceTurang hit a solo homer. It was only the third time in his career that Skenes surrendered two or more home runs in a game. He ultimately allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over four innings. The Brewers added eight more off YohanRamirez and Ryan Borucki in the fifth and sixth, then two more off infielder JaredTriolo in the eighth.
Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta was dominant, allowing the three hits, walking one and striking out seven over six scoreless innings to set up the majors-leading 15th time the Pirates have been shut out.
"We gotta flush it," DonKelly said. "We got a day game tomorrow, we gotta flush it, come back and compete tomorrow. ... (The Brewers) do have momentum and they're going to put up good at-bats. I think with Paul today, the fastball was there, but it didn't seem like he had full command of the off-speed. They got a hold of some fastballs."
