Spencer Horwitz celebrates his solo home run with third base coach Mike Rabelo in the first inning tonight at PNC Park.
The Pirates put together yet another offensive outburst and got a strong performance from Andrew Heaney to secure a 7-0 win over the Cardinals tonight at PNC Park, increasing their run total to 37 during their current four-game winning streak.
"We operate as a team," Heaney said. "There's going to be times where we pitch the ball well, there's going to be times when we don't and we need them to hit. There's times where both are going and there's times where neither are going. So, I think you just play to the game that's in front of you and those guys have been doing a great job of scoring early and scoring often."
Spencer Horwitz led the charge at the plate, putting the Pirates on the board in the first inning with his first career leadoff home run before adding two more RBIs on a double in a six-run fifth inning. NickGonzales added an RBI double, Ke'BryanHayes drove in two with a single and TommyPham contributed with a run-scoring single to extend his RBI streak to seven straight games.
The run support was plenty for Heaney, who took a no-hitter into the sixth before Victor Scott II ended the bid with a two-out single. Heaney allowed three hits, walked one and struck out seven over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. ChaseShugart closed it out by tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.
