Cubs 4, Pirates 3: Another terrible trip ends 1-5

The Cubs delivered some eighth-inning magic for a second straight day, as Dansby Swanson drove in the eventual game-winning run with a sacrifice fly to send the Pirates to a 4-3 loss and a 1-5 road trip this afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Carmen Mlodzinski provided the Pirates with four solid innings to begin a bullpen game, allowing an unearned run on one hit -- a second-inning RBI single by Ian Happ -- and striking out three. Colin Holderman, Andrew Heaney and Isaac Mattson each gave up a run in relief.

"Just the mentality of going right after guys,” Mlodzinski said. “I can honestly say there were a few balls I got a little lucky with, with the wind blowing in. That changed the outing a little bit. But ultimately no walks is going to give me the best chance to be effective and efficient."

Spencer Horwitz put the Pirates on the board in the third with a double and Joey Bart contributed with a two-run double that gave them a 3-2 lead in the sixth.
