Giants 4, Pirates 2: Late lead lost, series dropped

The Giants scored three unanswered runs in the final two innings, including the eventual game-winning run on a ninth-inning double by DominicSmith, to secure a 4-2 win and a series victory over the Pirates this afternoon at PNC Park.
Dennis Santana struggled to keep the Giants at bay, allowing two earned runs on three hits over 1 1/3 innings. PatrickBailey added an RBI single for an insurance run after Smith's go-ahead hit. Andrew Heaney allowed just one run on two hits, including a solo home run to JerarEncarnacion, over 4 2/3 innings before being replaced by DauriMoreta in the fifth. Heaney has now pitched fewer than five innings in four of his last five starts.
"Just felt like that inning he was falling behind a little bit, and just felt like with Moreta and the stuff that he offered, it was a good opportunity to keep the game right there with bringing him in," DonKelly said. "Just playing it by ear as we go. There's nothing that's set in stone."
The Pirates produced eight hits, three of which came off the bat of NickGonzales, who is hitting .433 over his last seven games. Gonzales drove in the team's first run with an RBI single in the first inning and TommyPham plated another run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
