Source: Barco expected to join Pirates in Cincinnati
INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS
Hunter Barco prepares to deliver a pitch during a game with the Class AAA Indianapolis Indians.
Hunter Barco, the No. 4-ranked prospect in the Pirates' system and No. 82 overall according to MLB Pipeline, is expected to join the team in Cincinnati tomorrow, per source.
I've been told that Barco may be joining the team via the taxi squad.
Barco has made 27 appearances (23 starts) between Class AA Altoona and Class AAA Indianapolis this season. After pitching 25 2/3 scoreless innings with the Curve, he received a promotion to Indy where he compiled a 3-1 record with a 3.79 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and .215 batting average against over 21 appearances (17 starts). In 73 2/3 innings with Indy, Barco struck out 82 batters and walked 42.
With only six games left against the Reds and Braves, Barco would have a short sample to impress at the big-league level, given that he actually gets time on the mound. He would give the Pirates a second left-handed option, in addition to EvanSisk, for the final road trip of the season.
