Porter: Pitt didn’t ‘recruit in their backyard enough’
During an appearance on Christian Kuntz's podcast, Joey Porter Jr. discussed his decision to play collegiately at Penn State instead of Pitt, saying he wanted to go to the latter but felt like they didn’t “recruit in their backyard enough.”
WOW!
On the Christian Kuntz Podcast, North Allegheny alum Joey Porter Jr discusses why he didn’t go to Pitt and how he feels Pitt doesn’t recruit their backyard enough.
“I felt like even our 7-on-7 team, Evolve, we had so many top guys. Even 412, they had so many top guys, and they just never really recruited out of that pool,” Porter said. “I was like, ‘If my guys not going, I’m not going.’ That’s what was really going on with Pitt.”
Porter, who played his high school ball at North Allegheny, said he had around 25 total offers. Toward the end of his recruitment process, he narrowed his top five down to Penn State, Pitt, LSU, Miami and Nebraska. Porter spent four years at Penn State before being drafted by the Steelers with the first pick of the second round in the 2023 NFL Draft.
