Like a lot of people in our little part of the planet, I suspect, I'd be OK with never hearing another peep about the 1970s. They were what they were when they happened -- and I was at least old enough as a child to absorb some of it -- but enough's enough.
Overwhelming statistics show Pittsburgh's a cleaner, healthier, smarter and safer city than it was back then, it's infinitely more livable, and the industries we have now are aimed at a more stable future than pinning everything on manufacturing. As an example, in this week's Washington Post, an extensive article details why Western Pennsylvania's uniquely positioned to handle the impending AI boom.
So, I'm not gonna lie: I always feel a little backward when I've got to delve into the 1970s myself, as I do in this morning's Daily Shot of Steelers -- just below in this feed -- by treating with real relevance the remarks Terry Bradshaw made yesterday about his old team's mismanagement of his old position here.
Thing is, he was right. Other thing: Everyone will listen.
