Site Stuff: Game coverage mega-boosted! Live, too!
We aren't awesome at everything we do, and I never pretend otherwise. On multiple fronts, to be blunt, we remain very much a work in progress.
But when it comes to game coverage?
To be just as blunt: I'll put both our process and our product against anyone's anywhere. And that was before the creation this week of our new 'game center' file that, with every Steelers, Penguins or Pirates game we staff -- which means all of them, of course -- will include the following:
• Quick synopsis from the reporter • Links to all our on-location coverage • Embedded video highlights • A complete, custom boxscore! • Links to a ton of additional game data • A team schedule with links to results! • The team's latest trends/streaks • A visual lineup of the next three games • And soon, visual division standings
Dali and I've been at this all week long and ... well, let's just say it's got us pushing even further.
OLD-SCHOOL LIVE FILE!
Through this weekend, we'll gradually resume placing all live-file entries -- except video highlights -- into the comments so that our subscribers can have an easier time interacting with staff. It won't be perfect at first, but give it a handful of games, and we'll get it right.
I know when to admit defeat. You win.
You always win, by the way, in case that's not noticed.
SPECIAL-WORKER DRIVE: 692
The past week's seen 31 new contributions to our special-worker drive, so the total's at 692!
Thank you!
We're seeking reader help building a fund from which we can offer 1,000 massively discounted subscriptions for teachers, police, fire, nurses, other emergency workers and volunteers. They're $20 per contribution. We'll then sell these at two-thirds off the full annual price, and that'll remain their price forever.
• No columns, no shows, no Live Qs on Memorial Day.
• Yes, of course we're covering the U.S. Open right up the river at Oakmont. Nicolas Lavigne will do that for us, with Taylor overseeing the operation.
• We're still seeking a sponsor for our every-weekday live video, 'Double Shot of Steelers.' It's getting great and growing traffic, and we can provide proof, unlike most media advertising elements. Reach out to me at the email just above.
• On the travel front, Greg will fly to Phoenix and San Diego to cover the Pirates' next trip. Taylor Haase will be at the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo, N.Y., June 1-7.
• If you're not ad-free, it's only for paying subscribers. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: This is our subscribe page. From there, make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/restart at the monthly or annual level. We also offer mega-discounts for students and seniors.
• Feel free to add a good review on our Google business listing, our Appleand Spotify podcast channels and, arguably most important, our own official app pages, whether it's the Apple or Android version.
BACK TO BUSINESS
