One funny thing about this fantastic business of ours: No matter how many different endeavors we'll add, we always wind up right back at the same foundation.
Meaning, of course, our app/site.
Meaning, to be more specific, our paying subscribers to this product.
Because even amid the ongoing and extraordinary growth of our podcasts, videos and semi-related expansions onto social media platforms, everything we do, written or spoken, has only one home. And that's right here. All our content goes here first. All our alerts and notifications get sent from here first. And above all, all our community interaction goes here first.
That said, it hasn't been an awesome year on this front, to be completely candid. The skyrocketing cost of gas, most prominently, is having a painful impact on all travel components -- airfare in particular -- and hardly just for us. There's also been a leveling-off of readership and subscriptions as a whole. Nothing precipitous or alarming, to say the least, but it's all flat enough that the rise in travel's felt that much more.
So, the simple solution?
Oh, you know, sell more subscriptions.
Like, maybe 1,000 of them.
We're going to set that as a goal between now and the Steelers' season opener, Sept. 13 against the Falcons at Acrisure Stadium, and we're going to go about it honestly: There'll be no gimmicks, no donations sought or anything like that. Just a general rolling-up of the sleeves and push, push, push.
We'll start here. If you're reading this through ads, or you're wondering what it might be like within our commenting community, or you're just interested in supporting this proud, pioneering, family-owned pure-Pittsburgh journalism venture, then please consider joining us.
A subscription eliminates ALL ads (unlike at the Post-Gazette, where they still cake their pages with ads even for paying subscribers), and it includes exclusive access to our daily Live Qs with reporters, and it'll soon be the only way to read Friday Insider, among other features.
The base price is a still-unchanged $59.99 a year or $6.99 a month, but we offer steep discounts for seniors, students and special workers. And, as ever, those who've served in the U.S. military never pay a solitary penny. (Our readers see to that with an annual drive.)
Also, for those already subscribed, we offer gift subscriptions at two-thirds off!
We'd love to have you aboard! Let's get that count rolling! I'll update here each week!
NFL DRAFT MERCH PANIC!
We still have one box of NFL Draft sweatshirts, (not nearly as many) caps and no more T-shirts in our ONLINE SHOP, with prices up to HALF OFF, and shipping FREE!
And, of course, we'll add football and hockey once those seasons approach.
INSIDE THE WORKS
• Mega-thanks to Adam and all of our BoomPress developers for straightening out a bunch of stuff, notably the notifications that'd gone dormant for a lot of you. Been neat to hear how much everyone's enjoying these now.
• There's also a new photo gallery effect that's allowed us to better house Greg Macafee's work from the Steelers' OTAs. It still needs some tinkering, but it's a strong start.
• A reminder I'll be making a lot: A subscription to this app/site covers only that. It doesn't apply to any memberships we offer on YouTube. And the same is true, obviously, in reverse. The reason: The commerce platforms have nothing in common.
• Feel free to add a review of any aspect of our business on our Google business listing, or on our Appleand Spotify podcast channels. Makes a real difference.
BACK TO BUSINESS
• Our page-view numbers for our most recent full seven-day span, May 15-21, were 641,828. Our most-read original piece was my exclusive reporting from the South Side on the Steelers' quarterback plan, at 15,409.
• Our video views, also for May 15-21, were 230,013. Our most-watched program was our Live Shot of Steelers on Aaron Rodgers' signing, at 15,766.

BASEBALL STATS! WOO!
They're not yet perfect, but our new baseball statistics, standings, schedule and boxscores are up and running on the app/site right now.
And, of course, we'll add football and hockey once those seasons approach.
