Harrison on Steelers: 'Something needs to be done'
James Harrison is one of the greatest Steelers of all time. He's played for Mike Tomlin. And he's also not afraid to speak his mind.
In joining former Steelers teammate Willie Colon on his podcast The Why Willie Show, Harrison said the Steelers' season ended in a similar pattern that that "something needs to be done."
"We gotta get better with the players. We gotta get better with the coaching," Harrison said. "It’s not what you’re used to. 'The standard is the standard,' it feels like a saying now. It’s not something you actually see."
Ouch.
Of course, that is at least somewhat directed at Tomlin, and Harrison even made a point that the recent stretch of seasons without even one playoff win is having people talk about Tomlin's legacy and lack of coaching tree. Harrison, while admitting he's happy he's not in the position to make decisions, gave his perspective on how it feels to see the team in its current state compared to how it was when he played.
“If I’m the head coach of a football team and I’ve been the head coach of this football team for however long that’s been and now the team’s not doing well, that all has to all fall on my shoulders," Harrison said. "Because I’ve been here long enough to be able to draft who I want and put the guys in the positions that I need. For me to be like, 'Well, I haven’t been get this or get that,' well, I’m the guy who’s supposed to be getting that and I’ve been here long enough to get it."
