Cranberry Township native Matthew Vogt qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday, set to be held at nearby Oakmont Country Club later this month. Vogt won the qualifier at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash. to earn his spot in the U.S. Open
Vogt was a caddie at Oakmont Country Club for six years before attending Butler University in Indianapolis and later Indiana University School of Dentistry. He is currently a practicing dentist in Indianapolis.
“I knew I could do it,” Vogt said in an interview with the Golf Channel after. “Oakmont and Pittsburgh and everything there, it means so much to be, having grown up in Pittsburgh and caddying there, and it took every ounce of energy in my body to not think about that all day. And I’m just so proud of staying present, staying in the moment. I feel like I’m going to wake up from a dream here in a little while, and this isn’t going to be real, but it’s real, and I’m so excited.”
Matthew Vogt, DDS, is keeping his father close to his heart as he goes home to Pittsburgh for the U.S. Open. ❤️🥹
