The Steelers' players are making their way back to the South Side.
Phase one of the offseason workouts began Monday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, with a good amount of Steelers showing up to the voluntary workouts. Kenny Pickett, Diontae Johnson, Najee Harris, James Daniels, Mason Cole, Chukwuma Okorafor, Dan Moore, Kendrick Green, Connor Heyward, Gunner Olszewski and Calvin Austin III were among the Steelers who showed up on the South Side.

Phase 1 of the offseason workout program is when players are permitted to return for voluntary conditioning. This also gives new players an opportunity to work out with their new teammates for the first time. This phase lasts two weeks and activities are limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation.
After phase one, the Steelers will begin phase two, which covers the following three weeks. On-field workouts are permitted during this phase, and that may include individual or group instruction and drills conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted during that time. This is also when rookie minicamp will be held. That usually takes place on the first or second weekend after the draft.
None of the workouts during the offseason program, including OTAs, are mandatory. Only minicamp, scheduled for June 13-15, is mandatory.
