• Final. Penguins win, 3-2, and sweep the western trip.
• Canucks go for the extra attacker with about two minutes left.
• Five minutes remain.
• GOAL: Teddy Blueger makes it a one-goal game with six minutes left. Penguins 3, Canucks 2
• Blake Lizotte and Filip Chytil with some hard whacks/cross-checks after the whistle. Ref just separates them.
• GOAL: Canucks get on the board. Stuart Skinner makes the initial sprawling save but Jake Debrusk roofs the loose puck. Penguins 3, Canucks 1
• Jack St. Ivany has an upper-body injury and won't return to the game.
• Third period is underway.
• The Penguins are having their rookie dinner after this. Maybe two goals will ease the cost for Ben Kindel later.
• End of the second, and it's 3-0 Penguins. A goal from Evgeni Malkin, a pair of goals from Ben Kindel. Shots are 21-18 Penguins.
• GOAL: Ben Kindel again, right in front of his family suite. A hard wrist shot from the slot that actually broke the camera inside the net. Penguins 3, Canucks 0
• Neither team has been particularly good at protecting the net-front here, but the Penguins have been the better team at getting shot attempts off and capitalizing on them.
• Things are getting chippy this period. It was Parker Wotherspoon at the center of it earlier, this time it's the third line after the Canucks think Ben Kindel took one crack too many at a loose puck. Justin Brazeau and Anthony Mantha jump in to his defense.
• The Penguins' second and fourth lines have been the stars here so far, that's been the case for much of this trip. Just driving play.
• Huge ovation when Ben Kindel is announced as the goal-scorer from his people in attendance, the Penguins' fans, and even some of the Vancouver fans who recognize him as a hometown kid. He's from about 40 minutes away from here.
• GOAL: Ben Kindel parks himself at the net front and redirects a shot-pass from Ryan Shea. Kindel has a ton of family here in a suite, that happened at the end right in front of his suite. Pretty cool. Penguins 2, Canucks 0
• By the way, Jack St. Ivany still isn't out here after leaving midway through the first. Not totally sure what happened last period, he blocked a shot but he didn't react or anything to it.
• GOAL: Evgeni Malkin, quick wrister on a Tommy Novak setup off the rush. That one will count. Penguins 1, Canucks 0
• Penguins kill the penalty.
• Stuart Skinner with a pair of highlight-reel sliding saves and then another big stop on this PK. "STUUUUUUU" chants ring out here in Vancouver.
• Penguins to the PK with 18:03 left in the second. Anthony Mantha gets two for elbowing.
• Second period is underway.
• End of the first. Each team put the puck in the back of the net that period but the score remains 0-0. Shots are 9-8 Vancouver.
• I don't have the numbers in front of me but success rates in coaches challenges are way down this year, and it seems like goaltender interference is particularly a gamble. So, with that being called no-goal on the ice, it'd be tough for Vancouver to challenge.
• Canucks thought they scored with 55.9 left but it's immediately called no-goal for goaltender interference, Teddy Blueger was in the crease and fell into Stuart Skinner. Penguins really lucked out there, I think. I don't think Blueger made contact until the puck was already in.
• Ryan Shea has three of the Penguins' eight shots so far. He's been particularly good this trip.
• I went back and re-watched that Jack St. Ivany block, I think it hit him in the right instep. He really didn't react at all after, though. That might not be it.
• Jack St. Ivany left for the Penguins' locker room. He had blocked an Elias Pettersson shot shortly before.
• Just a heads up that the wifi here has been cutting in and out. Struggling here.
• No goal, it was offside. Quick review.
• Vancouver is challenging for offside.
• GOAL: Egor Chinakhov goes to the net front and redirects a pass from Evgeni Malkin from behind the net that trickles over the goal line. Penguins 1, Canucks 0
• Low-event hockey to start but the Penguins have definitely been the team in control for most of it.
• Vancouver welcomes back Arturs Silovs at this stoppage, he stands up and salutes the crowd. He got a loud standing ovation.
• Looking at the videoboard here, Brett Kulak sure looks a lot like Jeff Carter:
TAYLOR HAASE / DKPS
• This is underway.
• Canucks' lines and pairings:
Evander Kande - Elias Pettersson - Jake Debrusk Drew O'Connor - Filip Chytil - Brock Boeser Liam Ohgren - Teddy Blueger - Conor Garland Nils Hoglander - Max Sasson - Linus Karlsson
Elias Pettersson - Filip Hronek Zeev Buium - Tyler Myers Marcus Pettersson - P.O Joseph
• Penguins' lines and pairings, no surprises:
Rickard Rakell - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust Egor Chinakhov - Tommy Novak - Evgeni Malkin Anthony Mantha - Ben Kindel - Justin Brazeau Connor Dewar - Blake Lizotte - Noel Acciari
Parker Wotherspoon - Erik Karlsson Brett Kulak - Kris Letang Ryan Shea - Jack St. Ivany
• I see a number of Arturs Silovs jerseys down by the glass in warmups, some posters welcoming him back too. He only played 29 games here but was a fan favorite.
