• The crowd is chanting "CROS-BY!" after the win.
• GOAL: Canada wins it with 3:54 left in OT. Mitch Marner, with a setup from Sidney Crosby for his third assist of the night. What a game.
• Canada got a 3-on-1 but couldn't make anything of it.
• Massive sliding stop by Jordan Binnington.
• Canada starts Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner, Cale Makar. Sweden starts Gustav Forsling, Joel Eriksson Ek, Jesper Bratt.
• Another refresher: A regulation win is three points in the standings, OT/shootout win two points, and OT/shootout loss one point. So a possible point has already been lost for the winning team.
• This one is going to overtime. A refresher: It's three-on-three, but can last 10 minutes instead of five. If nobody scores after 10 minutes, it'll go to a shootout.
• Canada kills off the penalty.
• Sweden gets its first power play of the game with 7:06 left. Josh Morrissey sits for two for high-sticking.
• Huuuuuge save from Filip Gustavsson on Devon Toews to keep it tied.
• GOAL: Sweden ties it. Joel Eriksson Ek goes to the net and taps in a setup from Jesper Bratt. Canada 3, Sweden 3
• GOAL: Adrian Kempe skates through Canada's D and beats Jordan Binnington to make it a one-goal game. Erik Karlsson sprung him on that rush for the assist. Canada 3, Sweden 2.
• The third period is underway.
• Canada says Shea Theodore won't return to the game. A note, teams can't add players to the roster anymore unless they fall below 18 total skaters. So if he's out, they can't replace him for the remainder of the tournament unless they have two more injuries.
• Canada is down a defenseman, by the way. Shea Theodore left earlier in the second and never came back.
• End of the second. Canada leads, 3-1. Canada's goals from Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand and Mark Stone, Sweden's goal from Jonas Brodin. Sidney Crosby is up to two primary assists. Shots are 14-12 Canada.
• GOAL: Mark Stone puts Canada up 3-1, another incredible primary assist from Sidney Crosby. Great work holding onto the puck to make that possible. Canada 3, Sweden 1
• GOAL: Sweden gets on the board. Jonas Brodin goes top-shelf from the right circle. He had a bit of a rough first period, so good for him. No point for Rickard Rakell but he provided the screen in front. Canada 2, Sweden 1
• Seems to be a much more evenly-matched second period. Good hockey.
• Rickard Rakell is going to the net-front a ton. It's bound to pay off at some point for him.
• Second period is underway.
• Erik Karlsson shot the puck at Canada's net like, a good second after the end-of-period buzzer. Some of the Canadians let him know they didn't appreciate it.
• End of the first period. Canada leads off of goals from Nova Scotia's Nathan MacKinnon and Brad Marchand. Sidney Crosby with the primary assist on the opening goal. Shots are 7-3 Canada. Not a great start for the Swedes, but nothing egregious from Erik Karlsson or Rickard Rakell.
• Hey, a real shot on goal for Sweden. It only took 15:15. Jordan Binnington easily gloves it down.
• Yeah, they took that Sweden shot away at the TV timeout. Back to no shots.
• Nearly 14 minutes in and Sweden gets their first shot on goal, and I don't even think that should have counted as a shot. It was going wide and Jordan Binnington came out to the side of his net.
• GOAL: Brad Marchand off a 2-on-1 with Brayden Point. Poor Jonas Brodin was the lone man back and got all turned around. This game has been all-Nova Scotia so far. Canada 2, Sweden 0
• All the talk of Canada having weak goaltending might have been overblown. There's 8:32 left in this period and Sweden hasn't been able to get a single shot off.
• Just went in and added videos of the ovations for Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux in this file below.
• Sidney Crosby, skating as a wing, just took a face-off. In case you missed it in the feed this morning, I asked him about being on the wing and if it was related to managing his injury (as in, limiting his faceoffs) and he said no, and that he'd expect to rotate who takes draws.
• The first five minutes of this game just quieted whatever "glorified All-Star Game" talk was left. This is a competitive game.
• GOAL: Wow. Canada strikes seconds into the power play. Sidney Crosby had a backhand pass in the slot to set up Nathan MacKinnon at the right circle. Connor McDavid with the secondary assist. Absurd. Canada 1, Sweden 0
• Canada gets a power play 44 seconds into the game. William Nylander high-sticked Nathan MacKinnon.
• They're having a former legend and current captain from each of the four teams out for the ceremonial faceoff. Teemu Selanne here for Finland. Daniel Alfredsson for Sweden, Mike Richter for the U.S. and MARIO LEMIEUX for Canada. The crowd erupts. Pretty sure a guy in the crowd shot was crying. "MAR-I-O" chant breaks out several times.
• Place goes insane for Canada's starting lineups. Deafening cheers for Sidney Crosby, then a "CROSBY!" chant breaks out at the end of it all.
• Loud boos for Sweden's starting lineup, with the loudest boos reserved for the Leafs' William Nylander. He seemed to enjoy it.
• Classic hallmarks of NHL events are non-functioning wifi and far fewer outlet plugs that one would think they’d need. Checking all the boxes here tonight!
• And for the Swedes, same units they've been working with the whole time:
Adrian Kempe - Elias Pettersson - Filip Forsberg Jesper Bratt - Joel Eriksson Ek - Lucas Raymond William Nylander - Mika Zibanejad - Rickard Rakell Gustav Nyquist - Elias Lindholm - Viktor Arvidsson
Mattias Ekholm - Erik Karlsson Victor Hedman - Jonas Brodin Rasmus Dahlin - Gustav Forsling
• No surprises with Canada's lines:
Sam Reinhart - Connor McDavid - Mitch Marner Sidney Crosby - Nathan MacKinnon - Mark Stone Brad Marchand - Brayden Point - Seth Jarvis Brandon Hagel - Anthony Cirelli - Travis Konecny
• Sidney Crosby was next-to-last coming out of the tunnel like he is with the Penguins ... followed by Mitch Marner. My understanding is Marner doesn't have any years in the Russian Superleague, let alone three. Curious!
