Phil Tomasino sustained a lower-body injury when he crashed into the boards awkwardly in the third period on Friday. He stayed down for some time and left for the locker room with assistance from teammates, appearing to not put much weight on his right leg:
Hard to tell what exactly he injured on that play, but if you look at the second angle in that clip, you can see Tomasino's ankle/foot appear to twist in a bad way as he makes contact with the boards.
Tomasino didn't return to the game, and there was no update on his status after the game. I did see Tomasino after the game, and he was back in his dress clothes but still had his sandals on and had a bad limp as he was moving about, but wasn't using crutches or any other kind of aid. Forgoing the dress shoes for sandals could suggest the ankle/foot injury hypothesis, especially if there was any kind of swelling.
The Penguins are scheduled to practice in Raleigh on Saturday, should learn more then. If Tomasino can't go Sunday in Raleigh, then Anthony Beauvillier and Jesse Puljujarvi both remain as options to get back into the lineup.
