As Omar Khan and Mike McCarthy sort through the many ways to form their roster for the 2026 season, one thing they likely won't do is cut Jalen Ramsey.
In conversations with multiple sources, Ramsey is expected to stay with the Steelers and not be a cap casualty. Entering his age 32 season, Ramsey will cost $19.5 million against the cap.
However, according to a team source, the information regarding Ramsey's contract on OverTheCap.com -- a prominent, accurate website that tracks NFL contracts -- is not accurate. According to OTC, Ramsey's $19.5 million can be completely wiped away. However, Ramsey does have guarantees that roll over into the 2026 season. So, there would be dead cap.
Yet, that's not the real reason why Ramsey won't be cut. Money, cap hits, guarantees -- it's all moot. Much like Aaron Rodgers did in 2025, Ramsey earned a high level of respect from his teammates, the coaches and members of the front office. He is one of the more beloved members of the organization. In my talks with multiple team sources this week, there's absolutely nothing that suggests they want to get rid of Ramsey.
As things naturally are during this time of year, every situation is fluid. Things change on a dime. However, it would take a dramatic shift to change this. The bottom line: Fully expect for Ramsey to be a member of the Steelers in 2026. Where he'll play, whether it be slot cornerback, outside cornerback or safety, is a completely separate question, one that's not yet been sorted.
