Aaron Rodgers has dropped a serious hint that he's signing with the Steelers.
During a Q&A on a podcast with his friend Mike Stud in Austin, Texas, Rodgers was asked by a fan if he would ever play for the Bears. Rodgers instead, of his own volition, mentioned a team that plays against the Bears this year:
"No, but I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip," Rodgers said. "I don't know. I'm not sure. You might have to check it out. I love Chicago, though, way more than they love me. It's been a great relationship all one way."
The teams the Bears host this season are the Vikings, Packers, Lions, Cowboys, Saints, Giants, Browns and, of course, the Steelers. The Packers, Lions, Cowboys and Giants are set at quarterback. The Browns have a terrible quarterback room, but it's overflowing with five options. And Rodgers hasn't been tied to them at all this offseason.
The Saints were thought of as an option after Derek Carr retired, but reports indicated Rodgers wasn’t on their radar. In addition to the comment above, one fan asked Rodgers directly about the Saints and he immediately said he wouldn’t play for them.
The Vikings are a bit interesting, but they have indicated that Rodgers is not part of their plans as they are committing to J.J. McCarthy, who they drafted 10th overall in 2024.
That leaves the Steelers as the only viable option left. And, this is the first time we've heard real indication from Rodgers' own mouth about actually playing for the Steelers. Even though he said a lot of great things about Mike Tomlin, Arthur Smith, Tom Arth and the Steelers in general while on the 'Pat McAfee Show' in April, he never really indicated that he's intending on signing there or even hinted at it. This is different. And, notice the word "retirement" never came up, either.
The question that still remains, and that's genuinely more pressing, is when Rodgers will sign. While the team would surely love to have him for OTAs, those are voluntary. There's a good chance we don't see some of the more prominent players on this team when OTAs begin next week on the South Side. However, mandatory minicamp might be a different story. We have yet to see or hear anything from the Steelers about a deadline for Rodgers.
