The Steelers' trade for Jalen Ramsey just got better. At least, it did from a salary cap perspective.
According to Spotrac, Ramsey's contract with the Steelers is effectively a four-year, $84.7 million deal that includes $19.5 million fully guaranteed -- all in 2025. However, Ramsey's cap hit in 2025 is ridiculously cheap $4.904 million.
As far as seasons beyond 2025, Ramsey carries cap hits of $17.23 million in 2026, $19.15 million in 2027 and $31.05 million in 2028. However, only $3.5 million of his 2026 salary is guaranteed for injury only. Should the Steelers decide to cut Ramsey in any of the years following 2025, they would take on $14.596 million if cut in 2026, $10.947 million if cut in 2027 and $7.298 million if cut in 2028.
For a player of Ramsey's caliber and status, this is a very affordable contract. As I've stated before, Omar Khan knows what he's doing with the salary cap. The Steelers even saved money against the cap doing this trade, as Minkah Fitzpatick's cap hit for the season was set to be more than $22 million.
According to Spotrac, the Steelers now have $25.228 million in cap space. That's accounting for Jonnu Smith's new contract, which comes with cap hits of $5.128 million in 2025 and $10.873 million in 2026.
