Blockbuster: Fitzpatrick traded to Dolphins for Ramsey, Smith
The Steelers and Dolphins finalized a blockbuster deal this morning involving All-Pros Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jalen Ramsey. The trade is pending physicals, the team announced this afternoon.
The Steelers received Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Ramsey will receive a $1.5 million raise this season, but the Dolphins will pay $7 million of Ramsey's $26.6 million contract. Smith, who will reunite with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, will get a one-year, $12 million extension.
Ramsey, a three-time All-Pro, is primarily an outside cornerback and will solidify that position with Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay. However, he's at least logged 1,263 snaps from the slot over nine seasons, including a career high of 341 with the Super Bowl champion Rams in 2021. He has proven his ability to play in the slot, giving Mike Tomlin and Teryl Austin options within the secondary.
Ramsey announced he was heading to the Steelers right before the trade:
Fitzpatrick returns to the team that drafted him with the No. 11 overall pick in 2018. In 2019, the Steelers sent a first- and fifth-round pick, along with a 2021 sixth-round pick to Miami in exchange for Fitzpatrick, a 2020 fourth-round pick (Kevin Dotson) and a 2021 seventh-round pick (Tre Norwood).
