The Steelers capped another week of pre-draft visits by hosting three more players: Kansas State running back D.J. Giddens, SMU defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte and Texas A&M EDGE Shemar Stewart.
By my count, the Steelers have used 26 of their 30 allotted pre-draft visits. They'll finish those off next week.
Giddens is a later Day 2 option at running back, and might be a great pick in the third round. At 6-0 and 212 pounds, Giddens is a big back with 4.43 speed. He has a ton of patience and one-cut ability that could step into the Arthur Smith's system and thrive. He needs to learn to use his size to his advantage a little more often and really needs to improve in his pass protection, but the traits are very intriguing in the third round.
Stewart is likely a Day 2 edge rusher, but that's only because this class is absolutely loaded at the position. He's 6-5 and 267 pounds with ridiculous 4.59 speed off the edge. The physical traits are tantalizing, but the technique needs refinement. Once he learns the art of beating tackles off the edge, the sky's the limit. The Steelers don't need an edge rusher, but it might not be a bad idea to add another bullet in the chamber in case he falls to the third round. That would be an absolute steal.
Harrison-Hunte is likely a later Day 3 option. I haven't done much homework on him, so I'll yield to NFL.com's Lance Zierlein:
"With a mature rush approach, Harrison-Hunte is a sixth-year senior who needs a scheme-specific fit. He has average snap quickness and limited knock-back pop but rarely gets pushed around badly despite a lack of mass. He shines as a pass rusher, where he can be a constant menace for guards in pass pro. He plays with basketball feet and a boxer’s hand flurries to access edges and gain early advantages. He rushes with an unpredictable tempo and a relentless motor. Harrison-Hunte doesn’t have the size or length to stand out on early downs, but he might be dynamic enough to earn a spot as a rotational rusher."
