The Vikings have been chosen as the Steelers' opponent in the NFL's first regular season game in Ireland. The game will take place on Sept. 28, which will be Week 4 of the 2025 regular season, at Croke Park Stadium in Dublin. Kickoff will be 9:30 a.m. ET.
The Steelers were announced as the host team for the Ireland game on Feb. 7, which came with little surprise because of the Rooney family's ties to the country. The only other NFL game played in Ireland was a preseason bout between the Steelers and Bears in 1997.
"We are very excited to be the designated team in the first regular season game to be played in Ireland this upcoming season," Art Rooney II said after the Steelers were announced as the host team for the game. "The opportunity for the Pittsburgh Steelers to play in Ireland is truly special, not only because of the Rooney family history there, but also to play in front of the growing number of Steelers fans in Ireland. We are thrilled to be part of this historic event to represent Pittsburgh in a game that brings the NFL to the great sports fans in Ireland."

The Vikings are an interesting choice for the Steelers' opponent in this game. Not only is it a rematch of Super Bowl IX, but it's also a rematch of the 2013 London game between the two teams, the only regular season game the Steelers have played as part of the international series. The Vikings won that game, 34-27, putting the Steelers in an 0-4 hole at the start of the 2013 season.
This time around, the Vikings are coming off an impressive 14-3 season in 2024, but still didn't win their division because the Lions were even better at 15-2. The Vikings ended up losing to the Rams in the wild-card playoff, 27-9. Over the offseason, the most significant move they made was letting Sam Darnold walk in free agency, despite having a breakout year, and fully committing to J.J. McCarthy as their quarterback, who the Vikings selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Regardless of who their quarterback is, the Vikings have a talented roster, which includes a strong defense that ranked fifth in scoring last season and Justin Jefferson, arguably the best wide receiver in the league.
The Vikings will be staying in the area following the game in Ireland to take on the Browns in London on Oct. 5.
The Packers were long speculated as the Steelers' opponent for this game. The idea of two historic franchises facing off in a historic first-ever regular season game in Ireland was tantalizing. Not only would it have been a rematch of Super Bowl XLV, but if and when Aaron Rodgers signs with the Steelers, there would have also been the potential for it being his first game against his former team.
The rest of the Steelers' 2025 regular season schedule is not yet known. That includes when they'll have their bye week. Though it doesn't happen all the time, it's common for teams playing international games to have their bye week immediately afterward to better deal with the accompanied jet lag.
The full 2025 regular season schedule will be released tomorrow at 8 p.m. It will be aired on NFL Network and available for streaming on NFL.com and NFL+.
