The Steelers are officially hosting a 2025 regular season game in Dublin, Ireland. Peter O'Reilly, the NFL's senior vice president of events, made the announcement Friday morning.
"We are very excited to be the designated team in the first regular season game to be played in Ireland this upcoming season," said Art Rooney II in a press release. "The opportunity for the Pittsburgh Steelers to play in Ireland is truly special, not only because of the Rooney family history there, but also to play in front of the growing number of Steelers fans in Ireland. We are thrilled to be part of this historic event to represent Pittsburgh in a game that brings the NFL to the great sports fans in Ireland."
The game will be played at Croke Park Stadium, the largest sporting arena in Ireland and home of the Gaelic Athletic Association, in partnership with the Government of Ireland and Dublin City Council. It's the NFL's first regular season game in Ireland. The only other NFL game played in Ireland was a preseason game in 1997, in which the Steelers played against the Bears.
The Steelers will be the designated home team, one of their nine home games in 2025. The date of the game has not yet been announced, though team sources believe the game will be played in the earlier stages of the season, perhaps in late September. The opponent has not yet been announced, either. Most likely, the full details of the game will not be announced until the full NFL schedule is released in May.
"There are a lot of clubs that are interested in playing in his historic game," O'Reilly said.
There is a report from ESPN that the Steelers will host the Packers in this game on Sept. 28, which would be Week 4 of the regular season. That has not been officially announced.
Regarding the ticketing process, the team plans to work with as many American fans as possible, specifically for Steelers season ticket holders.
"The Steelers are looking forward to working with our season ticket holders," said Dan Rooney Jr., Steelers vice president of player personnel. "The resources and information for ticketing for the Dublin game will be available on Steelers.com. The league really runs the ticketing process for these international games. But we're excited to get our fans over there to Croke Park to experience this momentous occasion. Cannot wait to get the game rolling."
An email was sent out to Steelers season ticket holders Friday morning, giving them an opportunity to sign up for an exclusive lottery for a chance to purchase tickets to the game. Also included in the email is an offer from On Location on ticket and travel packages through their priority access deposit program. It requires a fully refundable $500 deposit to get access to tickets and travel packages ahead of the general public.
