Steelers host Powers-Johnson, Fisher for pre-draft visits
The Steelers hosted Oregon C Jackson Powers-Johnson and Notre Dame RT Blake Fisher for pre-draft visits on Wednesday, adding two more intriguing offensive linemen to the list.
Powers-Johnson is the more intriguing prospect. Center is a huge need for the Steelers, and the draft provides an interesting way to address it. Powers-Johnson has a unique blend of size and athleticism, which has made him the most coveted center by a lot of people in this draft class. You can read more about him in my Chalk Talk on three center prospects.
The main issue with Powers-Johnson is recent rumblings -- of which I heard while covering the NFL annual meeting in Orlando -- of poor medicals, which could cause his draft stock to plummet. However, with the Steelers hosting him for a pre-draft visit, they can get their hands on him and perform their own examinations, which could make their decision about Powers-Johnson much easier.
Fisher is an intriguing Day 2 tackle prospect, should the Steelers not take a tackle in the first round. I touched on Fisher just a little bit in my most recent Chalk Talk.
