The Steelers plan to release Montravius Adams, per source.
With the Steelers adding as many names to the defensive line mix as they have in free agency and the draft, there was bound to be an odd man out. This at least gives Adams the chance to find a job in an upcoming second wave of free agency.
While in Pittsburgh, the 29-year-old revived his career from being a practice squad guy to becoming a rotational piece on the defensive line over the past four seasons. He primarily played nose tackle in the Steelers' base 3-4 defense. Over his time with the Steelers, Adams played snaps in 46 games, starting 21 of them, and recorded 72 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and three passes defensed.
With the team having Keeanu Benton and drafting Yahya Black out of Iowa in the fifth round over the weekend, the team has obviously decided to move on, aiming a little higher with the production and quality of play up front.
