The Steelers are expected to sign cornerback Brandin Echols, according to NFL Network. Contract details are not yet known.
Echols, 27, was a sixth-round pick of the Jets in 2021 out of Kentucky and played all four of his NFL seasons in New York. In those four season, Echols racked up five interceptions -- two of which returned for touchdowns -- and 16 passes defensed.
With the signing of Darius Slay, Echols figures to be a versatile option in the Steelers' secondary. Slay and Joey Porter Jr. will start on the outside, and Echols can either be the third outside cornerback or compete with Beanie Bishop for the starting job at slot cornerback. Echols has primarily been an outside corner, but he played most of his snaps in the slot in 2023.
