The Steelers are expected to sign veteran safety Jabrill Peppers. The team hosted him early Tuesday morning, and the signing is expected to become official later in the day.
Peppers, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He played his first two seasons in Cleveland, then played three seasons with the Giants in 2019-21. He most recently played the past three seasons with the Patriots, but was surprisingly cut prior to the start of the season.
Over 99 games in eight NFL seasons, Peppers has logged 511 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, 35 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 5.5 sacks.
Peppers helps make up for the injury to DeShon Elliott, who sustained an MCL sprain in the Steelers' 34-32 win over the Jets in Week 1. Elliott will not only miss Sunday's home opener against the Seahawks, but is expected to miss multiple weeks. Adding Peppers gives the Steelers the potential to not rush Elliott back, especially with the early bye in Week 5.
