The Steelers held pre-draft visits on Thursday with three players: Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough, Ole Miss defensive tackle JJ Pegues and West Virginia offensive lineman Wyatt Milum.
Shough is an interesting player in a pretty underwhelming quarterback class. He's 25 years old and has seven years of college football experience, which makes him one of the more pro-ready quarterbacks in this class. And, Shough said at the Combine that he hasn't heard any feedback that his age is a negative thing.
Shough's got intriguing arm talent and underrated mobility, but it's difficult to pinpoint where he's going to go in this draft. Some have him as a surefire Day 2 pick, others still maintain he's a Day 3 guy.
Pegues is really fascinating. Not only is he versatile as an interior defender, but Ole Miss even used him as a short-yardage back. That's all you need to know regarding his athleticism:
Pegues is a high-motor guy, which helps make up for a little lack in length and size. The problem is he'll seem to not have it running quite as high at times, which limits his overall impact. Even so, he's explosive enough and athletic enough to become a starter at the NFL level.
Milum played exclusively left tackle for the Mountaineers, but his shorter arms (32 1/8 inches) might make him a better fit for guard at the NFL level. He's very athletic, already has sound technique in pass protection and a physical run blocker with good experience in zone concepts. He needs some refinement in the latter, especially if he switches to guard, but he can very well be a Day 2 pick in this draft.
Milum does not count toward the 30 allotted pre-draft visits because West Virginia is considered a local school. So, only Shough and Pegues count toward the 30.
